Mtwara is one of the southern regions of Tanzania which is bordered with Mozambique to the south and is formed by the Ruvuma River. To the west, Mtwara Region is bordered by the Ruvuma Region, to the North, by the Lindi Region, and to the East the region is bordered by the Indian Ocean. In Indian Ocean fishermen make their living on fishing from dugout canoes and dhows in the deep outer bay. The Region is accessible by Road, Air and Water.
Development of the Mtwara Region has been improved by the completion of the Mkapa Bridge over the Rufiji River that can be crossed as one is heading to Mtwara from Dar es salaam. Mnazi Bay gas promises to provide reliable and adequate electricity for powering industrial and commercial activities (Industrial region).
TIA-Mtwara campus is situated in Mtwara Region and is neighbouring to a famous old town known as Mikindani. Mikindani is a fascinating old town with winding streets and an interesting blend of thatched mud houses and coral houses influenced by Arabic architecture. The campus has a cool and pleasant sea breezed weather of Dar es salaam and Zanzibar like, ideal for studies, residence and recreation in the Indian ocean shore.
